Question and Answer with Magda Janczak
1. Who is your role model?
Of course, Michael Jordan would be on the top of the list for his outstanding and unbelievable athleticism. There was
really nobody who can stop him since he had so many moves up his sleeve that he had an answer for everything the
defender gave him...or didn't give him. Not only that, but he was just as active on the defensive end.
2. What made you like and choose to play basketball?
I don't want to admit it, but I chose basketball because it was either that or volleyball since my school didn't have any
other teams, and I wanted to be active. I didn't like it too much and was very, very bad, but I did want to get better
because many of the girls were graduating for the next season, so I thought I can be a starter. So, as I got better, I
started to like the game more and more and eventually I developed a passion for the game.
3. At what age did you start to play?
I was 11 when I made the team in 6th grade, but I barely played apart from at practices twice a week and didn't even
know the rules, so I guess you can say I was in 7th grade (12 years old)...That was when I actually learned how to
make a right handed layup.
4. What are your favorite sneakers to play in?
I like all of the sneakers I have, all 16 of them... but I would say Nike are the most comfortable.
5. What do you like to do before your games.
I like to eat a good meal about 2 to 3 hours prior to a game and get everything I need for the game ready and neatly
organized. If there is a basketball game on, I'll watch it and at the same time remind myself of different moves or plays I
practiced.
6. What kind of music do you like?
I'll listen to all types of music, I don't have a favorite.
7. What is your favorite subject in school.
Right now, my favorite subject is Geometry since the teacher gives the most work and the most notes, so I don't sit
there bored waiting for the rest of the class to catch on.
8. What do you do in your leisure time.
My leisure time is spent playing basketball, or training or swimming. I also like to draw. I don't do much apart from that.
9. What does basketball mean to you, what makes it fun.
Basketball is everything. Literally, everything I do revolves around it. One of the things that makes basketball fun is
doing a nice move, or executing a nice play, like a steal and a fastbreak, or making a pass that nobody expected. That
moment brings you so much happiness and energy, you want to scream.
10. What is high school life like as a student athlete.
It's fun. It's not too hectic or anything for me, because I'm doing what I enjoy. I enjoy learning new things and
basketball. Sometimes I feel like I don't have any time at all to sit down for a while and relax, but it's good fun. I manage
my grades well and that helps me take the worry of school out of my mind and focus more on basketball.
The reason why I chose to attend one of the best high schools in the country is because...it's the best high school in
the country. The fact that it's not far away and the academics are easy helped also. I had the opportunity to choose a
school where if you have good grades and you're a solid basketball player, you will get a scholarship to college. That
is my goal. I want to go to a Division 1 college and play. After that, I'd like to play in the WNBA or in the European
league.
My mom is a big part of my life. Not only does she drive me to my games and practices, spends money on gas and
spends time sitting during my games and practices (which I thank her for very much), but she is also everything else.
She is my coach, my fan and my parent all at the same time. She is the best mom in the whole world.
* I would also like to thank Coach Bruce Bishop for helping me greatly improve so far in the month that I was training
with him. And that was only a month, I have my whole life ahead of me :) Thank you very much Coach for everything!)
